Activities

This strand delivers the first comparative European mapping of how universities use leadership, Centres for Teaching and Learning and wider institutional strategies to stimulate and reward teaching excellence. It combines desk research, a survey targeting over 300 universities, and stakeholder consultation, identifying transferable best practices that can inspire both the training modules and future institutional reforms.

The validated reports provide the baseline evidence that shapes the training content, the quality framework, and the dissemination and policy messages, ensuring every output is rooted in real data and co-created insights.

This strand equips university leaders, CTL staff, and academic and administrative personnel with the skills, knowledge and frameworks needed to institutionalise teaching excellence. It translates the insights gathered in the mapping into practical, evidence-based training resources, ensuring capacity building directly addresses institutional needs. Its results collectively form the LITE Competence Framework for Teaching Excellence Leadership.

• April 2026 – September 2026. Development of the LITE Competence Framework and the four training curricula.
• October 2026 – March 2027. Delivery of the four blended training programmes.
• October 2026 – March 2027. Continuous peer review, quality control and feedback loops.

This strand equips senior university leaders and academic managers with practical tools, peer learning and recognition mechanisms for embedding teaching excellence into governance, career structures and quality assurance processes. Building on the mapping and the training, it turns evidence and skills into practical leadership resources, and supports universities in diverse institutional contexts in establishing, reforming and embedding Centres for Teaching and Learning into leadership-driven strategies.

The strand establishes that developing excellence in teaching is a leadership task, that teaching excellence should be supported by institutional frameworks such as CTLs, that it has both universal and particular expressions, and that its content and meaning are dynamic and require continuous development.

• September 2026 – December 2026. Design and delivery of the LITE Micro-Credential.
• January 2027 – June 2027. Development and delivery of the Peer Mentoring Programme.
• January 2027 – June 2027. Development of the LITE CTL Development Scheme.

The project's ambition goes beyond producing useful trainings and tools for universities. Its goal is to change how European universities understand and advance teaching, strategic leadership and the institutionalisation of teaching excellence. This strand ensures that the ambition translates into real-world change, by turning project results into practical resources, embedding them into institutional and policy processes, and ensuring they remain accessible, updated and influential long after the project ends.

It serves three interconnected objectives: targeted, audience-specific dissemination to university leaders, CTL staff, academic communities and policymakers; structured institutional uptake, where partners and associate partners commit to embedding the tools into leadership development and teaching practice; and the establishment of ENLITE as permanent infrastructure.
